Helping Houston with the Power of Your Network

Helping Houston with the Power of Your Network

Hurricane season is upon us, and as Hurricane (now Tropical Storm) Harvey is battering Houston, Texas and the surrounding area, it’s left much of the rest of the country watching the news in horror and feeling helpless. In times of natural disasters, it can be difficult to know exactly how to help victims if you can’t be there on the ground physically helping people or with the ensuing clean up. It’s not unusual for people to take advantage of disasters such as this one to solicit money that may not be going directly to helping victims, leaving people feeling wary of donating in the first place. What’s the solution? Well, we did the research and the vetting for you to find reputable sources, foundations, and organizations that are working directly with the victims of Harvey to provide relief and resources. What can you do with that information? Share it, of course! Don’t underestimate the power of your network and the power of knowledge. There’s probably plenty of people out there who simply haven’t made a donation because they didn’t even know where to start. All the more reason for you to become the source of reliable information for people in your network, whether it be via email or social media. We know the importance of our networks, and this is a powerful way to share information under circumstances that can truly enact change and make a difference in someone’s life. What did we do? In an effort to raise awareness of how exactly folks in our  network can help out, we sent out an email to all of our customers and...

Contactually’s New Feature Recap — Introducing easier ways to engage, and more!

We’re halfway through Q2 of 2017, and we’re excited to continue covering more ground. Our latest announcement? We’re introducing notable improvements to make you even more efficient while using Contactually. Ever get stuck digging for information on your contact? You’re ready to send a Follow-Up, but you’ve got to search a little further to make sure you’re on track with previous conversations. Now with the introduction of the Universal Contact Sidebar (UCS), you’re able to quickly skim the information you need, right there in the Follow-Up window! The UCS is a visual tool that gives you a brief overview of the important details surrounding your relationship. When sending a Follow-Up or composing a ScaleMail, you can now view your activity and recent communication history, locate important contact information, and pinpoint which Bucket(s) the contact is in. Easily surface all relevant information for each contact so that when you’re drafting your message, you can ensure it’s personal to the recipient and in line with your last communication. You’ve crafted the perfect message– now what? You’re ready to add value and continue the conversation. Before you hit send, opt in to our brand new Email Open Notifications feature. Identify exactly when the recipient opens your email, and leverage that opportunity to connect in the moment. Receive a notification on your desktop or iOS as soon as your message is read. (Android users, don’t worry — we’re building this for you in a brand-new mobile app. Click here if you’d like to join the beta.) Imagine how powerful your follow-up will be! Building a Better Team at the Contactually Retreat 2017

Building a Better Team at the Contactually Retreat 2017

So, it’s 2017. It’s been about 2 years since we raised our Series A. The company looks vastly different than it did then. We’ve hired an experienced executive team from successful companies like OPower, Netflix and AddThis. We have a strategic vision for growth. We are starting to understand who our customer is, and we feel confident that our Product team is rapidly evolving to serve the needs of these customers. That being said, we have experienced a dramatic amount of change over the past 2 years. We said goodbye to colleagues. We welcomed new ones. We embraced real estate. We programmed in new languages. We released new services. We moved offices. Change was our only constant, and we have a team that rolled with the chaos. So, how do we help our team with change? We communicate. A lot. Don’t get me wrong, we fail at communicating the right things at the right time in the right way all of the time. But the intention is there, with regular all-team meetings two times a week, a Contactually newsletter, a Wiki that documents our every breath and let’s not forget the ever ubiquitous Slack. These forums make sure that Train A knows when Train B is coming and going, but they don’t always give meaningful time for our team to reflect, to engage with one another, and ultimately help shape Contactually. This is why we retreat each year. For two days, we make the decision to shut down shop, hop into various cars across MD, VA and every quadrant of DC to withdraw from the hustle and bustle of...

Here at Contactually, we love a good book, and if you pop by our office in DC, you’ll find plenty of books on the shelves that have helped to shape who were are as a company and how the teams run. We’ve also made plenty of recommendations here on the blog for best books for professionals to read to improve their business prowess…so we decided to ask our teammates here at Contactually what they were reading. If you’re thinking to yourself that you ‘don’t have the time’ or that you’re ‘too busy’ then it might be worth it to think again! Not only is reading a great way to pass the time and unplug from our increasingly connected world, it’s been scientifically proven time and time again that reading can help increase your brain functionality, and could potentially decrease your stress levels by up to 68%… isn’t that something that’s worth making some time for in your life? Whether you’re reading books to help you better your business, or you’re taking in the latest literary fiction, increasing your reading time is bound to improve your overall health and well-being, which in turn will improve your business! See what we did there? Best business books + more from Contactually: When we asked Team Contactually to give their recommendations, we got a range from those classic ‘business’ books to some contemporary (and classic) literature. We decided to share them all with you and let you pick which to add to your list next! Grit by Angela Duckworth Written by psychologist Angela Duckworth, Grit argues that the thing that sets successful people apart from the...
